Sometimes there’s so much rattling aroundvin my brain, it feels crowded and empty simultaneously. The words don’t seem to flow.
So I return to an exercise that my coach Elena taught me: “I am….”
Remember the game, “Mad Libs”? You must think of nouns, adjectives, numbers, whatever. Nouns describe us in relationship to what we do and how we sit in the world in relation to others, while adjectives describe who we are as ourselves without the modifiers. Instead of using nouns, try focusing on adjectives, the descriptors of our personality, rather than of our persons.
How we use language to describe ourselves gives us a glimpse into who we are, how we think and speak to ourselves, and our mindset. It determines how we move in and about the world. How we show up as those nouns: lawyer, daughter, friend.
So try the exercise with me and go through the alphabet A through Z and find the adjectives that describe you.
